The wine displays crushed black cherry, blackcurrant, and violet aromas with a savory minerality running through. Medium-bodied with velvety tannins and crisp acidity, it balances richness with refinement—a signature of proprietor Paul Quié's multi-estate vision. More about Chateau Bel Orme Tronquoy-de-Lalande

Bel Orme Tronquoy-de-Lalande is the kind of Haut-Médoc estate that keeps Bordeaux honest: owned by one family for generations and built around a vineyard on the banks of the Gironde at Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, just north of Saint-Estèphe.

The property dates back to the eighteenth century, and its manor house is often attributed to Victor Louis, architect of Bordeaux's Grand Théâtre. The Tronquoy-de-Lalande family, who supplied the second half of the name, built its reputation in the nineteenth century. In 1936 the Quié family bought it, the first of their Médoc properties; they went on to own Château Croizet-Bages in Pauillac and Château Rauzan-Gassies in Margaux. The third generation, Anne-Françoise, Jean-Philippe and Paul-Henri Quié, now runs the estate.

The 30 hectares of vines grow on clay and gravel and are planted to roughly two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon. The clay gives the Merlot its roundness, while the better-drained ground lets the Cabernet ripen fully. The farming is sustainable, the vineyard sits within a protected Natura 2000 area, and each parcel is vinified separately before the wine is aged in French oak for a year or more.

Expect a Merlot-led, medium-bodied claret with dark fruit, a savory edge and the structure to age.
