From a 1960 planting block at 450-500 meters elevation on Citrusdal Mountain, this Chenin Blanc is split between stainless steel and 400-liter French barrel spontaneous fermentation. Complex and elegant, it delivers concentrated pear, citrus, and stone fruit with mouth-watering acidity and mineral core. Founded by Ginny Povall in 2009.

"The Botanica Wines 2023 Citrusdal Mountain Chenin Blanc The Mary Delany Collection boasts a beautiful floral design on the front label, and those pretty graphics match the linear presentation and sharp fruit nuances of this bright South African white. White flower, plumeria, ponderosa lemon, summer peach and crushed stone lift from the bouquet. The mouthfeel has a creamy element that adds to the wine's mid-weight texture. These grapes are purchased from a vineyard planted in 1960 on their own roots near Clanwilliam in the Olifants River Valley in the Western Cape." —Monica Larner

More about Botanica

Ginny Povall left America for South Africa's Stellenbosch in 2008, bought Protea Heights farm, and started planting both indigenous flowers and organically-farmed vines. The 21.6-hectare farm grows 10 hectares of indigenous flowers blooming year-round and 5 hectares of high-density biodynamic vineyards. Through regenerative agriculture, they increase soil fertility, build biodiversity, and craft Cabernet-based blends with purpose. It's wine with integrity.
