Every bottle of La Vallée Suspendue carries a thread of every harvest the Gamet family has made since 1999. That's the idea behind a perpetual reserve (réserve perpétuelle): each release blends a base year with wine drawn from a single reserve the house has kept going since then, so the wine's memory keeps building over time. The fruit comes from three Marne Valley villages, Mardeuil, Fleury-la-Rivière and Damery, grown on sand mixed with clay and limestone and farmed organically in practice. The blend leans hard on Meunier, the house specialty, at around 80%, with Pinot Noir and a little Chardonnay making up the rest. It's fermented and raised in barrel with malolactic, then spends at least six years on its lees before a light 4 g/L dosage. You rarely see that kind of patience in a non-vintage Champagne. Marianne and Jean-François Gamet, the fourth generation here, took over from their parents Fabienne and Philippe, and this is grower Champagne for anyone who wants to see Meunier taken seriously.

More about Gamet

A family grower estate in the Vallée de la Marne, just outside Épernay, with eight hectares on both banks of the river: Mardeuil on the left, Fleury-la-Rivière and Damery on the right. The holdings came together through two families, Gamet and Heucq, and Marianne Gamet, the fourth generation, has led the estate since 2018. Meunier leads the way, alongside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, in Champagnes that show how good the Marne can be.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with morel cream sauce; gougères or a wedge of aged Comté; butter-poached lobster; wild mushroom risotto; seared scallops with brown butter.

Tasting Profile

Expect the orchard-fruit generosity of Meunier: ripe apple, pear and red-berry notes, deepened by barrel fermentation, long lees ageing and a perpetual reserve into toasted brioche, hazelnut and a gentle sherry-like edge. With only a light Extra Brut dosage, it typically finishes bone-dry and saline, with a fine, creamy mousse and fresh acidity keeping its light frame lively.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
