The "dog teeth" in the name refers to this incredibly stony east-southeast-facing site just meters below the Grand Cru of Chevalier-Montrachet. This tiny 20-are parcel, planted with argilo-calcareous soil intensely rich in stones, rivals Puligny's finest in finesse and elegance. Henri Prudhon's expression, aged 9-12 months with 30% new oak and pneumatic pressing, reveals the tense, mineral-driven character that can only come from proximity to these legendary slopes.

More about Henri Prudhon

Saint-Aubin hides just behind Puligny and Chassagne, sharing their hillsides while flying under the radar. Henri Prudhon, born there in 1921, founded this domaine in 1945 when he and his wife Marguerite combined their vines. In the early 1980s their son Gérard began bottling instead of selling to négociants, and Neal Rosenthal has imported every vintage since 1983. Gérard's sons Vincent and Philippe now farm 14.5 hectares with minimal intervention, barrel-fermenting the whites slowly in cool cellars. Pure, classic and remarkably priced.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

The Prudhons own just one-fifth of a hectare in this amazingly situated premier cru. Also a mere stone’s throw from Chevalier-Montrachet, “Les Murgers des Dents de Chien” sits just to the north of “En Remilly” and just below “Sur Gamay” on the slope—the most prime real estate in Saint-Aubin. As is typically the case, this bottling is less exuberant and forward than “En Remilly” in its youth, with a quiet, deep minerality, and a bit less sumptuous fruit character, but holds great, great promise.

Delicate white fish, scallops, goat cheese, asparagus, truffled dishes.
