Perrières is the site most Burgundy lovers will tell you should have been Meursault's grand cru, and Vincent Dancer owns barely a quarter-hectare of it — 0.29 hectares on the stony limestone of the northern side of Perrières-Dessous, planted mostly in 1963. The estate has been a quiet star of the Côte de Beaune for years: based in Chassagne, certified organic since 2012 (the first in Chassagne-Montrachet to get there), with the 1er cru vineyards worked by horse. Théo Dancer, who returned in 2016 and took over fully in 2021, keeps the cellar deliberately hands-off — native-yeast ferments with nothing added, natural malolactic, no bâtonnage, and a few months settling in stainless steel before an unfined, unfiltered bottling. No new oak has been bought here since 2019, which tells you where the priorities lie: the site, not the barrel. This is the kind of Meursault that gets allocated rather than sold, and it will reward patience in the cellar.

"The 2023 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is chalky and ethereal, offering up notes of crisp pear, peach, minty green apple and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural palate that's concentrated and chiseled, with good grip and cut." —William Kelley

More about Vincent Dancer

Vincent Dancer came to Chassagne-Montrachet from Alsace and has been making wine there since 1996. His wines are tense, mineral-driven and sometimes downright powerful, yet always precise and beautifully poised. He farms about five hectares across Chassagne, Puligny, Meursault, Pommard and Beaune, certified organic since 2012, with dense plantings that keep yields low, and he uses minimal new oak. Holdings are small, so the wines have always been scarce. His son Théo now works alongside him.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast capon with morels, lobster with brown butter, seared scallops, veal blanquette, aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Dry, full-bodied white Burgundy built on Chardonnay from a very stony limestone site. Expect citrus and orchard fruit with hazelnut and a distinctly stony, saline edge, firm acidity, and a long mineral finish. Tightly wound young; it should open up with cellar time.
