Chateau d'Yquem stands alone — the only estate classified Premier Cru Superieur in 1855, the undisputed summit of Sauternes — and here it comes in magnum, the ideal format for long aging and a celebration table. Made from botrytized Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc picked grape by grape, the 1995 is an elegant, balanced, classically structured vintage. The large bottle has aged it slowly and gracefully; at thirty years it's mature with years still ahead. A showstopping bottle for a milestone, easily serving a crowd.

Antonio Galloni

95 points

"The 1995 Yquem is deep gold in colour. According to the estate, potential alcohol levels shot up from 16° at the beginning of harvest to 30° within two weeks. The bouquet bursts from the glass, as before, quite Barsac-like in style with white peach, tangerine, acacia and saffron, a touch of candle wax with time. I have always found this to be a precocious Yquem, quite unctuous, showy even, though this example has more reserve towards the finish and perhaps more delineation. After a quarter of a century, this is drinking beautifully now. À point." —Neal Martin

More about Chateau d'Yquem

The world's greatest sweet wine. Only château to hold Premier Cru Supérieur status, d'Yquem averages six passes through the vineyard each vintage for botrytized grapes. Yields near 2.5 acres, infinitesimal production. Thomas Jefferson knew. You should too.

Tasting Profile

Elegant, mature sweet wine — honey, dried apricot and citrus marmalade with fine botrytis complexity and bright acidity, slow-aged in magnum.
