Malbec's hometown isn't Mendoza. It's Cahors, a river valley in southwest France where the grape has grown for centuries and where the wines earned the nickname "the black wine." The Croisille family farms organically here, and Le Croizillon is their most direct statement: Malbec with no oak and nothing standing in the way. Expect a deep purple pour, blueberry and black plum, violets, and a graphite-and-iron edge that Argentina rarely delivers. The tannins are there but supple, the acidity keeps everything fresh, and it drinks well above its station. Fire up the grill and don't overthink it.
