Vespaiolo is the obscure grape worth the detour - a tart, fiercely citric white native to Breganze in the Veneto foothills, planted almost nowhere else. Mirco and Gloria Gottardi founded Contra' Soarda in 2002 on slopes just outside Bassano del Grappa, where the Valsugana valley funnels cool mountain air down for dramatic day-night temperature swings that lock in acidity. This bottling is 100% Vespaiolo, fermented spontaneously in stainless steel to keep the fruit pure and bright. If you love a high-acid white that hasn't been done a thousand times before, this is your wine. Drink it young and cold.
