A protégé of Vincent Dureuil-Janthial—one of Burgundy's most sought-after white wine producers—now making his own mark. Maxime Cottenceau took over his family's finest 2.8 hectares in 2018 after training under the Rully master. He eliminated herbicides immediately and began organic conversion in 2020; all work follows the lunar calendar. This Montagny ferments with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled steel, then rests 18 months on lees with minimal sulfites. From 20+ year-old Chardonnay vines in Les Préaux's eastern-facing slopes, expect mineral-driven purity and the extended lees contact that defines the Dureuil-Janthial style—at a fraction of Rully prices.
