From nearly five hectares of thirty-year-old Chardonnay vines at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, this Montagny captures what makes Burgundy's lesser-known appellations so exciting. The Faiveley family has been making wine since 1825—now in its seventh generation under Erwan and Eve Faiveley—and their 125 hectares make them one of Burgundy's largest landholders. Les Cent Pièces (named for the vineyard's historical barrel count) ferments and ages for sixteen months with lees stirring, eighty percent in vat and twenty percent in barrel with ten percent new oak. Expect floral citrus, fresh almond, and an elegant salinity from Montagny's Bajocien limestone.
