Les Chaignots holds a reputation for finesse rather than power among Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Crus, and the 2007 proves the point. Brown limestone soil with excellent drainage produces wine that's ruby-bright with sweet cherry, iron, earth, and red apple peel. The palate is sappy and medium-weight with remarkable depth beneath its delicate frame. This is Burgundy's quiet strength: wines that whisper instead of shout.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 90
"Bright medium red. Expressive, ripe nose offers smoky redcurrant, coffee and underbrush. A step up in intensity and thrust from the Vignes Rondes, with sound acidity giving a juicy, energetic quality to the cherry and spice flavors. Finishes with good spicy persistence and lift." -Stephen Tanzer

"Tasted blind at Flint Wines’ 2007/2012 Nuits Saint-Georges tasting in London. The 2007 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots from Mugneret-Gibourg has a perfumed bouquet with dark cherry and blackcurrant aromas, a little high toned as this cuvée can be and yet it remains nicely focused. The palate is chewy on the entry and this suggests that it may have undergone more extraction than usual. The fruit is as much black as red, proffering pastille-like notes towards the finish that at least has retained more freshness than its peers. Tasted November 2016." -Neal Martin

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
