Ruchottes-Chambertin is the rarest of Gevrey's Grand Crus—only 3.3 hectares exist, and Mugneret-Gibourg holds just 0.64 of them. The 2008 is sensual and dark, with crushed stone, rose petals, and a pepperiness that cuts through the wine's richness. The parcel sits on thin, stony soil with abundant rocks, which builds structure and complexity that few wines can match. This is the wine that proves size doesn't matter in Burgundy—scarcity and terroir do.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"Served from magnum direct from the domaine, the 2008 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a delightful nose with effervescent red berry fruit mixed with crushed stone and rose petals, hints of blood orange emerging. Fine delineation. The palate has a sappiness from start to finish, fine weight and though not the most complex Ruchottes that the Mugneret sisters have ever produced, it has an engaging pepperiness on the finish that tempts you back for another sip. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune." -Neal Martin

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
