More about Henriques & Henriques

Founded in 1850 by João Joaquim Gonçalves Henriques, this Madeira house started out supplying wine from family vineyards to other merchants while quietly building a cellar of old stocks. Unusually for Madeira, it farms its own grapes, including the terraced Quinta Grande, billed as the largest single vineyard on the island. Today the range runs from benchmark 10- and 15-year varietal wines (Sercial, Verdelho, Boal, Malvasia) to ancient soleras dating to the 1890s. Serious Madeira, priced fairly.
