Sourced from Stéphane Tissot’s oldest Trousseau vines—planted on the warm, gravelly slopes of Arbois—“Singulier” is a standout even among his already standout lineup. It’s a single-parcel, single-varietal bottling made from biodynamically farmed grapes, fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral barrels. The 2023 vintage brings tension, ripeness, and clarity into rare balance.

Trousseau here is anything but rustic. The wine is perfumed with red currant, black tea, dried flowers, and smoky spice, but what sets it apart is its shape: fine-grained tannins, seamless acidity, and a cool mineral thread that runs through it all. It’s structured but not heavy, expressive without shouting—a red with the finesse of Pinot and the edge of mountain Syrah.

Best with roast poultry, duck, or earthy vegetarian dishes, and built to evolve over several years. Singulier lives up to its name: singular vineyard, singular voice, and singular Jura soul.

The Tissot family has been making wine in the Jura for decades — Stéphane's father André started the domaine in 1962. Stéphane's first vintage was in 1989, at the tender age of 19, and almost immediately thereafter he decided to eschew commercial yeasts and pursue organic farming (although the domaine has been certified biodynamic since 2004). Chez Tissot, the goal is to illustrate the region's unique terroir, and to that end, they vinify as many as 28 different cuvées, determined parcel by parcel according to the soil. The small production wines are marked by elegance and freshness, in styles that range form sparkling and still to the signature Vin Jaune of the region.

Professional Reviews

"In 2023, the Tissot's got their largest crop ever. The wines are fresher and with more fluidity than in 2022. A preview of the 2023 Trousseau Singulier had a lifted nose, expressive and floral with hints of bubble gum. It felt a little different, as it had had three weeks of carbonic maceration. They have only produced a handful of carbonic maceration reds and are experimenting a little more. It seems to polish the varieties' tannins. 2023 is a cool year for reds, bright and vibrant with tension, like 2016." -Robert Parker
