Nicole Chanrion was one of the first women to run a Beaujolais cru estate solo, taking over Domaine de la Voute des Crozes in 1988 and doing every job herself, from pruning to bottling, on the steep blue-volcanic slopes of Mont Brouilly. Her Cote de Brouilly is the structured, mineral, ageworthy side of Gamay, grown on diorite and schist that give the wine real backbone. This is a mature back-vintage bottle from a private collection, now around two decades old. At this age, classic Cote de Brouilly trades its youthful fruit for earthy, savory, almost Pinot-like complexity. A fascinating look at how well serious Gamay can age.
