Domaine des Lambrays’ 2012 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru magnum stems from the historic monopole vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis. The estate, guided by the Bordet‑Fabre family, farms old-vine Pinot Noir biodynamically on clay-limestone soils and ferments with native yeasts.

Aged in a mix of new and one-year-old oak, this mature Grand Cru offers poised structure, earth-tinged red fruit, and forest-floor depth. It leads the domaine’s lineup and reveals refined Burgundian elegance, richly evolved in a prestigious format.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

"A markedly floral nose exhibits a broad array of spice and red and dark berry fruit aromas that include plum, cassis and earth. There is excellent detail and plenty of punch to the mineral-inflected flavors that are shaped by ultra-refined tannins on the balanced and gorgeously persistent finish that is firm and serious but not really especially austere. This is seriously good with a lovely sense of harmony plus the perfect balance suggests that this will mature over a very long time." -Allen Meadows

"Moderately saturated medium red. Wild, very ripe aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, mocha, cola, leather and game are surprisingly explosive for the vintage. Impressively rich and dense, offering flavors of pungent black fruits, loam and peppery spices, plus a whiff of cinders. A real essence of Morey-Saint-Denis with its combination of dark fruits and soil tones. Impressively plush and horizontal on the palate but with the pepper and spice notes providing superb mid-palate lift. Finishes very long, with substantial dusty tannins that avoid dryness. Robust more than elegant, this wine tastes like it just came out of the barrel. Indeed, it quickly went back into a shell in the glass, suggesting that it will need a minimum of another five to seven years of patience. I suspect it will eventually merit an even higher rating." -Stephen Tanzer

"The 2012 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is superb, rivaled only by the 2010 and 2015 among recent vintages of this near-monopole, unfurling in the glass with notions of cassis, currant leaf, rich soil, smoked duck, incense and richly savory bass notes. On the palate, it's full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional, with a lovely line of tangy acidity, considerable depth at the core and a long, sapid finish. After shutting down for a few years, the wine is already beginning to open up and realize the promise it showed from barrel." -William Kelley

"Lively deep ruby. A rather 'natural' nose! Intensity and potential certainly but not the purest. I look forward to seeing what others have written already. A little bitter on the end. But it does taste like a grand cru."

"Elegant red with notes of rose petals, sweet spices and hint of roasted herbs. Finely woven, classy wine with silky tannins. Combines finesse with concentration."
