More about Trestle Thirty One

Finger Lakes Riesling made by a Master of Wine: Nova Cadamatre was the first woman winemaker in the United States to earn the title, and Trestle Thirty One is the small label she and her husband Brian built for themselves on Seneca Lake.

Nova studied viticulture at Cornell, then spent years making wine at a much larger scale, including as a red winemaker at Robert Mondavi in Napa and as director of winemaking at Canandaigua Winery back in New York. Brian, a forestry graduate, came up on the business side of the wine trade. They launched Trestle Thirty One in 2015 and now pour from a tasting room in downtown Geneva. The name is pure local history: the railroad trestle that crosses the top of Seneca Lake, plus the Revolutionary War lot number, 31, assigned to the land when it was parceled out to soldiers after the war.

The range is short and focused: dry and demi-sec Riesling at the core, with Chardonnay, rosé and Cabernet Franc alongside. The wines are held back before release and built to age, with the kind of precision and cut you'd expect from someone who has tasted for an MW exam.
