The 2022 Domaine Roulot Monthélie Rouge is an elegant and refined Pinot Noir that showcases the finesse of this often-overlooked village in the Côte de Beaune. Domaine Roulot, globally acclaimed for its white wines, brings the same meticulous attention to detail and respect for terroir to its reds, crafting wines that emphasize balance, purity, and a true sense of place. Monthélie, situated just west of Meursault, is known for producing Pinot Noirs of charm and vibrancy.

In the glass, the wine reveals a bright ruby hue. The nose is expressive and layered, offering aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and wild strawberries, interwoven with floral notes of violets and subtle hints of spice and earth. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky tannins and vibrant acidity that frame the juicy red fruit flavors. Delicate earthy undertones and a touch of minerality add complexity, leading to a clean, elegant finish.

The 2022 vintage, characterized by warm and consistent conditions, lends this wine ripe and approachable fruit while preserving freshness and balance. This Monthélie Rouge is a versatile pairing for dishes such as roasted chicken, grilled salmon, or a mushroom tart. While delightful to drink now for its youthful vibrancy and polished texture, it has the potential to develop additional depth over the next 5–7 years. Domaine Roulot’s Monthélie Rouge is a testament to the domaine’s commitment to crafting wines of precision and authenticity, offering a compelling expression of this charming appellation.

The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his fathers success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.
