The Domaine Forey Père et Fils Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Saint-Georges” 2022 is a striking example of Burgundy’s premier terroirs, crafted by Régis Forey with precision and respect for tradition. “Les Saint-Georges,” considered the crown jewel of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, is renowned for producing wines of exceptional complexity, structure, and aging potential. The 2022 vintage, marked by warm days and balanced ripening, has delivered a wine of remarkable concentration, elegance, and depth.

On the nose, this cuvée reveals a captivating bouquet of ripe black cherries, red currants, and wild strawberries, complemented by floral notes of violets and subtle earthy undertones. Hints of spice and mineral notes further enhance its aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity providing harmony and precision. The wine’s mineral backbone, a hallmark of the “Les Saint-Georges” vineyard, carries through to a long, elegant finish, leaving a lasting impression of red fruit and subtle spice.

This wine pairs beautifully with dishes such as roasted duck breast, lamb with herbs, or truffle-infused mushroom risotto. While approachable in its youth for its fresh fruit and polished tannins, the Domaine Forey Père et Fils Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Saint-Georges” 2022 will reward extended cellaring over the next 8–12 years, revealing even greater complexity and nuance. It is a superb representation of this iconic vineyard and a testament to Régis Forey’s craftsmanship, offering both immediate pleasure and the promise of a remarkable evolution.

Regis Forey makes a range of traditional, old school Pinot Noir in the heart of Vosne-Romanée. His domaine is a total of 10 hectares and includes holdings from Nuits-St-Georges to Morey-St-Denis, and include some top 1er crus in Vosne. But the wines (and Regis himself) are not flashy, and indeed they can take careful cellaring to unlock their full potential.

These are the very qualities that first drew famed importer Neal Rosenthal to the estate back in 1982. Indeed this was one of the first Burgundy producers in a portfolio that is now famous for a slew of top-notch domaines and classic wines. What drew Neal to this domaine are the same qualities that his entire portfolio exemplifies: pure, unadulterated expressions of terroir.

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

Forey controls one-fifth of a hectare in this lieu-dit, perhaps the finest in the entire appellation. The vines were planted in 1933. Old vines are wonderful but that factor makes for very tiny production which makes this one of the most highly-allocated wines in our entire portfolio.
