Artemis Karamolegos is one of Santorini's leading producers, farming ancient Assyrtiko vines on the volcanic island's distinctive black soils—the "terra nera" of this wine's name. Santorini's viticulture is unique: vines are trained into basket shapes called kouloura to protect them from the fierce Aegean winds, and many are ungrafted and over a century old, having survived the phylloxera epidemic that devastated mainland Europe. Assyrtiko thrives here, producing wines of remarkable intensity and minerality, with electric acidity that cuts through the island's seafood cuisine. This bottling showcases the grape's characteristic citrus and saline notes, with a smoky, volcanic undertone that speaks of the dramatic landscape.
