If you've ever stood in En Remilly and looked downhill, you've looked at Le Montrachet — the great grand cru (which straddles Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet) sits just below this 1er Cru, separated by a path. Hubert Lamy's En Remilly is the flagship Saint-Aubin from one of the most precise white-Burgundy producers working today; Olivier Lamy took over from his father in 1995 and has spent thirty years refining a style built on extreme planting density, long lees aging in seasoned barrels, and a horror of new oak. The 2016 vintage was a small, frost-marked year that delivered classical, tightly wound wines, and ten years on this is opening into its window — chiseled, mineral, ringing with energy and the kind of focus that explains why En Remilly fetches the prices it does.

"There is mild touch of the exotic in the form of mandarin orange and viognier-like scents where additional notes of Granny Smith apples and citrus are present. Impressively dense and vibrant medium weight flavors brim with dry extract that buffers the firm acid spine shaping the mineral-driven finish. Excellent."

"The 2016 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru is surprisingly rather muted on the nose: quite earthy. After the 2017, it needs more fruit. The palate is marked by sour lemon and lime, rather harmonious with moderate depth, I find it a bit "fishy" and very saline on the finish. Good, but the 2017 is better." —Neal Martin

"The En Remilly is a touch more concentrated and textural than the Murgers des Dents de Chien, wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus zest, preserved lemon and crème pâtissière. On the palate the wine is supple, flossy and full-bodied, with succulent acids and lovely amplitude and dimension."

More about Hubert Lamy

Olivier Lamy took over this Saint-Aubin estate in the 1990s and transformed it from solid to legendary. Nineteen hectares of Côte de Beaune terroir (two-thirds Chardonnay) worked with obsessive attention and lutte raisonnée. His Haute Densité cuvées, from vines planted at unusually high density, show what happens when you farm like you mean it. Concentrated, complex, Saint-Aubin's new standard.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Sole meunière with brown butter and capers, roast chicken with lemon, scallop crudo with olive oil and sea salt, or a wedge of aged Comté with toasted hazelnuts.

Tasting Profile

White peach, lemon zest, crushed oyster shell, toasted hazelnut, and a chalky, almost saline mineral grip. Full but linear body, blade-edged acidity, tightly wound midpalate, and a long, stony finish that signals great white Burgundy.
