Professional Reviews

Burghound

"Ripe and brooding aromas grudgingly display notes of poached plum, spice, a variety of floral elements and earth that are trimmed in admirably discreet wood. The dense, powerful and tautly muscular medium weight plus flavors exude evident minerality on the impressively complex, persistent and serious finale. This is excellent plus it's a wine that always ages well, almost irrespective of vintage."

"The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 1er Cru has (another) very well defined bouquet with redcurrant, cranberry and sous-bois aromas, a little stemminess in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, impressive depth, but what underpins this premier cru is the freshness and tension on the finish. It should age with style. Superb." -Vinous

"The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Chaffots wafts from the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries, baking spices, orange rind and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's layered and seamless, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, saline finish."

"This is more blueberry and mulberry than black fruit; still ripe, deeply coloured and very fragrant. The texture is structured and rich, with the cool site bringing enough freshness to ensure a long and lively finish. From the premier cru part of Chaffots that faces east and south, opposite the Clos des Lambrays at the exit of the combe between 300-330m."

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

The Ligniers own just under half a hectare of 50-year-old vines in this great premier cru, which sits just above Clos-Saint-Denis on the slope. This vineyard yields a wine of brooding tension, black of fruit and stern, with a rigorous acid profile and real power underpinning it. “Les Chaffots” is unfailingly a profound wine that beckons for some patience, but the purity of fruit is striking here, even in the context of such tight-grained structure.

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
