Jean-Luc Jamet's Côte Rôtie Les Terrasses is the flagship wine of this Ampuis producer. The vineyard sits on Côte Brune, the darker, more mineral slope, and draws from the top lieux-dit parcels: Lancement, Bonnivières, and Landonne. This 2020 is 100% Syrah with nearly 50% stems, creating a distinctive potpourri-like quality atop dark brambly fruit.

The 2020 vintage was lighter in style than its predecessors, moving from cassis-forward character to redder cherry and raspberry notes—a classical expression lightened by the growing conditions. At six years old, the wine is approachable now but capable of aging at least a decade. Medium to full-bodied, with mineral reduction on the nose and layers of brambly dark fruit, the wine is juicy yet fresh with a stony depth. This is Côte Rôtie at its most elegant—not the heavy, extracted style of warmer vintages, but the refined, mineral-driven expression the region is capable of. The stem inclusion adds complexity and textural interest. A wine for serious Rhône lovers and for those seeking classical, food-driven expressions of Syrah.

"Tasting through several parcels/barrels, the 2020 Cote Rotie Terrasses looks to be a solid effort, marked by slightly vegetal notes up front and almost sherbet-like red fruit flavors. Medium to full-bodied, with decent texture and length, it should be approachable young, with the ability to age at least a decade." —Joe Czerwinski

More about Jean-Luc Jamet

The Jamet name means Côte-Rôtie, and Jean-Luc splits from his brother's traditionalism by using less whole-bunch fermentation—about 30%—to emphasize floral elements and vitality. Eight hectares of mixed granite, schist, and sand soils high above Ampuis yield Côte-Rôties that feel fresh and alive.

Tasting Profile

Brambly dark fruit (cherry, raspberry) with mineral reduction and potpourri-like spice from stem inclusion. Medium to full-bodied, juicy yet fresh, with stony depth and fine tannins. The wine shows classical Côte Rôtie character—red rather than black fruit, mineral precision, elegant structure.
