Michel Gahier is a traditionalist winemaker working in Arbois, the heart of the Jura, just a few minutes from his friend and mentor Pierre Overnoy. His “La Vigne de Louis” bottling comes from a plot of old-vine Trousseau, named after Gahier’s grandfather, who originally planted the site.

The 2023 vintage is made with organic farming, native yeast fermentation, and no fining or filtration. The wine is aged in old foudres, without sulfur additions at bottling, and shows the lifted, wild personality that Jura reds are prized for.

Trousseau is one of the Jura’s signature red grapes—more savory and structured than Poulsard, but still delicate. This bottling is pale and transparent, with flavors of wild strawberry, pepper, underbrush, and crushed rock. It’s light in alcohol but grippy and earthy, best served cool or lightly chilled, and a dream pairing for mushrooms, charcuterie, or roast poultry.

“La Vigne de Louis” offers one of the most honest, soulful expressions of Trousseau, with just enough Jura volatility to keep things interesting—but always in balance.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine:

From a single vineyard in Montigny, planted in the 1970s, which has a northeast exposure that requires a harvest later than the other “cru” reds. A wine with expressive alpine aromatics and good tannic presence, Gahier recommends this cuvée with at least five years of age to it.
