Montepeloso has built a cult following for its distinctive, terroir-driven wines from the rugged Tuscan coast. Nestled in Suvereto, near Bolgheri, the estate blends native and international varieties to craft reds with both depth and elegance. Eneo is Montepeloso’s flagship wine, a blend of Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Marselan, and Alicante Bouschet that captures the region’s wild beauty. The 2022 vintage, shaped by warm days and cooling sea breezes, delivers a wine that is rich, complex, and unmistakably Tuscan.

Black cherry, plum, and blackberry form the heart of the wine, complemented by notes of rosemary, tobacco, and black pepper. The palate is powerful yet balanced, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that keeps it from feeling heavy. Unlike the bolder, Cabernet-driven wines of nearby Bolgheri, Eneo leans into a more nuanced, savory character, offering a seamless mix of fruit, spice, and minerality.

A natural pairing for grilled meats, aged cheeses, or wild game, this is a wine that is compelling now but will evolve beautifully over the next decade. Decant if drinking young, or cellar to watch its layers unfold.

"The 2022 Eneo is superb. Rich and expansive on the palate, the 2022 offers up an exotic mélange of black cherry, plum, leather, licorice, incense and espresso. There's gorgeous mid-palate depth and plenty of textural richness, but in the more restrained style that informs these wines today. The long, silky finish is pure class." —Vinous

More about Montepeloso

Fabio Chiarelotto took over Montepeloso in 1999 and immediately began proving that Maremma's thermal currents and coastal winds could produce wines of serious structure. International and indigenous varieties find themselves in the same glass—Cabernet, Grenache, Vermentino—singing like they belong together. This is Tuscany refusing a single story.
