If you're looking for modern sheen or new oak polish, this isn't it. Domaine Burgaud makes Côte-Rôtie the old way—100% Syrah, whole-cluster fermentation, aged in neutral oak, and no shortcuts. The 2022 vintage comes from steep schist vineyards on the northern edge of the appellation and offers a pure, unfussy take on this legendary slope.

The wine is tightly coiled on opening, with aromas of black olive, crushed stone, smoked meat, and violets. The palate is firm, earthy, and mineral-driven, with dark berry fruit tucked beneath layers of savory spice and tannic grip. It’s Syrah in its most elemental form—nothing overdone, everything in place.

Best with air or time—decant it now or cellar for 5–10 years to let the edges soften. For fans of Gonon, Levet, or other classicists who like their Syrah unpolished but precise, Burgaud’s Côte-Rôtie is the real deal.
