A recent visit to the Paitin estate in Neive was full of delicious wines and fascinating history. The Pasquero-Elia family has been working these vineyards since 1796, and bottling the wines as Barbaresco for more than a century, even before their village officially joined Barbaresco. Three generations of the family are at work today in the vineyards and cellar, working organically and crafting Nebbiolo wines with equal power and grace.

Vineyards in Barbaresco fared well, offering darker wines for sure, but with intact perfumes that are not weighed down by over-ripeness. Ultimately, the vintage character comes off as more accessible, maybe a little softer and more fruit-forward. Black cherry segues to earth, rust and licorice." -Robert Parker
