What is this wine?
Pierre Paillard’s Les Terres Roses XVIII is a Grand Cru Extra Brut Rosé Champagne from Bouzy, one of the Montagne de Reims’ most prestigious Pinot Noir villages. Crafted from estate-grown fruit by brothers Quentin and Antoine Paillard, this cuvée blends Pinot Noir (predominantly) with Chardonnay and a small amount of still red Bouzy Pinot for color and depth. The base vintage is 2018 (“XVIII”), complemented by reserve wines, and it’s aged on lees for several years before disgorgement with minimal dosage (Extra Brut).

Why get this wine?
This is grower Champagne at its most elegant and terroir-focused. The Paillard family, farming organically on chalk and limestone soils, produces wines that highlight Bouzy’s power with remarkable precision and dryness. Les Terres Roses delivers the richness and fruit of Pinot Noir balanced by tension and finesse—an exceptional rosé for those who prefer structure and minerality over sweetness.

What does this wine taste like?
Crisp and vibrant, with aromas of wild strawberry, blood orange, and rose petal, followed by chalky minerality and a dry, mouthwatering finish. Fine, persistent bubbles carry both fruit and salinity in perfect balance.

When should you drink this wine?
Superb now for its freshness but capable of developing complexity over 3–5 years. Perfect with tuna tartare, duck, or charcuterie. Serve well-chilled in a white wine glass to let the aromatics shine.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
