For lovers of contemporary Mosel Riesling, Julian Haart has emerged as the grower. His top wines are amongst the most coveted and collectible in Germany.
He’s got the total package: old vines, historic, ultra-steep sites, a delicate touch in the cellar (no surprise considering he trained with Egon Müller and Klaus-Peter Keller), and a knack for crafting wines that achieve perfect harmonic tension each and every vintage.
Due to the domaine's tiny size and the intensely strict yields, there is nowhere near enough of the top wines to satisfy demand. Happily, Julian also produces a scintillatingly delicious set of “estate” wines, all from declassified grand cru fruit, in quantities just large enough to share in the newsletter and at shockingly reasonable prices!
The fresh 2025 release of 1000L and JJ Kabinett has just landed and the wines are firing on all cylinders: bursting with crunchy, high-toned Riesling fruit, pure slate minerality, and plenty of that unmistakable, electric Julian Haart energy.
1000L is unique in the Haart lineup. It’s the only wine fermented and aged in wood; the name is a reference to the classic neutral 1,000-liter Mosel fuder. It's sourced from younger parcels in the Goldtröpfchen Grand Cru, as well as Falkenberg and, for good measure, one barrel from the iconic Ohligsberg Grand Cru. In 2025, the wine bears a special label: “Für Lottie,” a tribute to the newly-arrived daughter of our longtime vom Boden rep, Collin Wagner. In the glass, 1000L is a deliciously fresh, crisp, intricate dry Riesling with crunchy fruit, zingy acidity, and loads of slate-infused mineral crunch.
JJ Kabinett (JJ is both a tribute to Julian’s son Johan Josef as well as J.J. Prüm—Julian clearly likes to keep it in the family) is also from Goldtröpfchen, with some fruit from the Falkenberg site just above. It’s a classic, weightless Mosel Kabinett packed with luminous Riesling fruit and ultra-focused mineral grip.
Both of these wines are drinking great now and will continue to evolve beautifully over the next few years. If you’re already a committed Julian Haart fan, you know what to do. If you’ve been wondering what all the fuss is about, this is your chance to join the party. The only catch is that quantities are tight. Please place your requests and we will do our best.
