Julian Haart's star keeps rising, and the 1000L is the bottling that put him on the map: named for the thousand-liter old oak fuder it's raised in, and made in tiny quantities from a young vigneron who apprenticed with Mosel royalty like Egon Muller and Klaus-Peter Keller. Haart farms steep slate slopes in the Mosel around Wintrich and Piesport, and his Rieslings are wines of electric tension and crystalline detail. This is his entry into that world: dry-leaning, weightless, and humming with energy. It's the kind of bottle that makes you understand why people obsess over Mosel Riesling. Drink it now for its zip or hold a few years.

More about Julian Haart

Julian Haart learned from the titans—Egon Müller, Klaus Peter Keller—before launching his own micro-estate in the Mosel. His JJ Kabinett is an elegant love letter to the region: off-dry Riesling from Goldtröpfchen that balances sweetness and acidity like a tightrope walker. Small production, massive flavor.

WINE GUIDES

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!

Flatiron Wines & Spirits has been hand-selling carefully chosen wine and spirits in New York City since 2012, from our shop on the border of the Flatiron and Union Square neighborhoods. We're not the biggest shop in the city, but we'd like to think we're among the most thoughtful: every bottle on our shelves earned its spot, and our team is on the floor — and on the phone, and in your inbox — to help you find what you actually want to drink.

The reviews below come from customers who've shopped with us in store and online. Some are glowing, some are constructive, and we read every one.
