Benoît Déhu’s Champagne “Cuvée L’Orme” Extra Brut NV, based on the 2019 vintage, is an extraordinary showcase of terroir-driven winemaking in the Marne Valley. This single-vineyard Champagne, made exclusively from Pinot Meunier, reflects Déhu’s dedication to biodynamic principles and his passion for crafting expressive, site-specific wines. “Cuvée L’Orme” is vinified and aged in oak barrels, allowing the wine to gain depth and complexity while preserving the unique character of the vineyard. With only minimal intervention, the wine’s natural elegance and structure come through beautifully.

On the nose, “Cuvée L’Orme” offers a bouquet of red apple, ripe pear, and subtle stone fruit, complemented by floral and herbal nuances that speak to its natural origins. The palate is finely balanced, with a creamy mousse and flavors of orchard fruits, citrus peel, and a distinct chalky minerality. Oak aging imparts a gentle spiciness and roundness to the wine, while the Extra Brut dosage keeps the profile precise, dry, and invigorating, with a lingering, mineral-driven finish.

This Champagne pairs wonderfully with complex dishes like roasted pheasant, wild mushroom risotto, or mature cheeses, each highlighting the wine’s depth and layered flavors. The 2019 base vintage lends it a rich texture and structure, while Déhu’s meticulous approach ensures a wine that is as reflective of its origins as it is compelling in the glass.

More about Benoit Dehu

Benoit is a Meunier specialist, working his family's vineyards on the western edge of the Vallée de la Marne. Starting in 2011, he started bottling wines under his own name from a single parcel called La Rue des Noyers -- 100% Pinot Meunier, farmed biodynamically, and ploughed mostly by horse. In 2015, he started blending some of this PM with Pinot Noir from a nearby plot, and calls it Initiation.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
