Georg Prieler is one of Austria's most respected Blaufränkisch producers, working out of Schützen am Gebirge in the Leithaberg DAC area west of Lake Neusiedl. Ried Pratschweingarten is a single vineyard climbing the hills directly behind Oggau, where warm breezes off the lake meet cool, limestone-driven soils — the exact combination that produces Prieler's most purist, transparent Blaufränkisch. The estate is organic, and the cellar work is famously hands-off: nothing happening today that wouldn't have happened 70 years ago, as Georg puts it. The 2022 shows fine red fruit, a hint of citrus lift, black pepper, ripe plum, and a salty Leithaberg undertone. Precise, structured, and built for the long haul.
