R. Pouillon et Fils is a family-run grower Champagne house that farms organically and vinifies with a light, precise touch. Based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in the Grande Vallée de la Marne, they work some of Champagne’s finest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards with an eye toward transparency and terroir.

Grande Vallée is a Pinot Noir-dominant cuvée that captures the richness and finesse of this sunlit corner of Champagne. Fermented partially in oak and finished with a whisper of dosage (Extra Brut), it’s vivid and textured: ripe orchard fruits, citrus zest, crushed almonds, and a backbone of chalky minerality. There's tension and breadth in perfect balance, with a dry, mouthwatering finish that makes it both a brilliant aperitif and a serious food Champagne.

It’s Champagne for people who seek detail, energy, and a true sense of place in every glass.

Pair with: tuna crudo, roast poultry, truffle fries, or a luxurious cheese board.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The NV Extra Brut Grande Vallée is a blend of 65% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meuneir and 15% Chardonnay harvested in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Mutigny, Epernay, Avenay-Val-d'Or and Festigny, 45% of the blend is from the 2019 vintage, 30% from 2018, both aged in oak, and 25% reserve wines kept in foudre. Golden color leads onto an earthy, expansive nose that has an overtone of ripe red bell pepper and juicy plum, with an oxidative edge from wood ageing. The palate is lighter than either color or nose suggest, flowing with inherent juiciness on a body that has traction and Pinot structure, but also bright freshness. Individual and surprisingly light." —Vinous

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
