A refined Pinot Noir from the upper slopes of Saint-Aubin's prestigious Les Argillers climat. Prudhon's 30- to 60-year-old vines on south-southeast-facing slopes deliver a wine that prioritizes mineral-driven elegance over plushness. Floral and spicy notes frame delicate red fruit, with crisp acidity and subtle tannins defining the cool-climate character. A textbook example of fine Burgundy structure in a lighter, more ethereal style.

More about Henri Prudhon

Saint-Aubin hides just behind Puligny and Chassagne, sharing their hillsides while flying under the radar. Henri Prudhon, born there in 1921, founded this domaine in 1945 when he and his wife Marguerite combined their vines. In the early 1980s their son Gérard began bottling instead of selling to négociants, and Neal Rosenthal has imported every vintage since 1983. Gérard's sons Vincent and Philippe now farm 14.5 hectares with minimal intervention, barrel-fermenting the whites slowly in cool cellars. Pure, classic and remarkably priced.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

Les Argillers sits on the upper reaches of the slope of Saint-Aubin, just south of Le Ban and bordering the forest with a south-southeast exposure. Prudhon farms two hectares of 30-to-60-year-old vines here, and the wine they produce tends to be snappy, mineral-driven and floral—less about Pinot Noir plushness and more about the freshness and drive of a cool-climate red wine, with considerable spice, excellent red fruit and subtle tannins; in sum, a classic version of this appellation.
