More about Nigl

Martin Nigl's family farmed around Senftenberg in the Kremstal for some two centuries, selling grapes to the co-op, until he talked them into bottling their own in 1985. Today about 25 hectares climb terraced slopes of primary rock like gneiss and mica-schist, with sites such as Piri, Hochäcker and Kirchenberg, plus loess vineyards near Krems. He never uses herbicides or insecticides and plants cover crops between the rows. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling split the vineyard roughly evenly, and both are precise, stony and full of energy.
