First planted in 1978 by Federigo Abbarchi and Angela Corioni, with first bottling in 1982 under guidance of legendary winemaker Giulio Gambelli. The site in the Scarnacuoia cru at 450 meters was reportedly where Ferruccio Biondi Santi first planted Sangiovese. Current owners Loredana Tanganelli and Antonio Brandi met in 2003 and took over Scopetone in 2009. They now farm 4.5 hectares total, including 40+ year old vines in the original plots. Certified organic. Consulting winemaker is Maurizio Castelli. Production averages 375 cases of Brunello annually.

Antonio Galloni

93 points

"Shavings of cedar combine with dusty stone, licorice and earthy tones as the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino slowly evolves in the glass. It is juicy in style with vividly ripe red and blue fruits, while a tactile mineral tinge adds a pleasantly crunchy sensation toward the close. Spicy with a sharp citrus twang, hints of tart wild berry pinch at the cheeks as edgy tannins resonate." —Eric Guido
