Domaine Fourrier’s 2023 Clos Saint-Jacques is a benchmark Premier Cru from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most revered sites. The vineyard’s mix of marl and limestone yields Pinot Noir with power and elegance. Vines average over 50 years and are farmed with minimal intervention.

Vinified with native yeasts and partial whole cluster, then aged in used oak, this bottling reflects Fourrier’s restrained, terroir-driven style. Clos Saint-Jacques is the crown jewel of the domaine, bridging Grand Cru pedigree with 1er Cru finesse.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 95
"A restrained if exceptionally pretty nose speaks of spiced liqueur-like aromas of various dark berries including cassis, plum and an interesting hint of jasmine tea. There is a really lovely sense of vibrancy to the even more mineral-driven flavors that are blessed with a bit better mid-palate density before concluding in a firm, serious and beautifully persistent finale. This well-balanced and quite powerful effort should easily reward a decade plus of cellaring." -Allen Meadows

"The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has an open-knit bouquet with brambly red fruit, certainly without the intensity of the 2022. It's stubborn compared to the other Premier Crus. The palate is medium-bodied and very refined. It is quite understated for a Clos Saint-Jacques, with beautifully balanced filigree tannins and a silky finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is a tender CSJ." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

RP 95
"Sensual and perfumed, the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is a beauty, bursting with notes of sweet wild berries mingled with orange zest, rose petals, peonies, cinnamon and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple, it's satiny and layered, with a deep core of fruit and a long, saline finish." -William Kelley
