Malvasia Istriana is Friuli's hidden gem—an indigenous white (not the same as Malvasias that you will encounter in other regions) that tastes like white flowers and stone fruit in a glass. Aged 12 months in barrel on fine lees, this 2023 adds depth and richness: peach, apricot, citrus, and almond notes deepen with aeration. 2023 tested every serious winemaker in Friuli through extreme conditions; that this wine achieves its elegance speaks to Pontoni's discipline.

Enzo Pontoni founded Miani in 1985 and capped production at fewer than 700 cases per year. His Sauvignon Blancs command a cult following—rare, expensive, impossible to find. The soil is ponca: layers of calcareous clay and sandstone. The approach is obsessive. This is what happens when a grower refuses to compromise or scale up.
