David Hirsch planted his vineyard on the West Sonoma Coast in 1980—when no one believed fine wine could come from such a wild, fog-drenched ridge above the Pacific. Forty-five years later, Hirsch Vineyard is one of California's most celebrated Pinot Noir sites, and Michael Cruse's Ultramarine rosé captures its distinctive character in sparkling form. Saignée method: brief Pinot Noir skin contact for delicate color, then traditional-method fermentation and aging, hand-disgorged in March 2023 with two grams per liter dosage. The 2018 vintage returned to a cool, late rhythm after several warm years, allowing slow ripening that built aromatic complexity while preserving bright acidity. Berry, white flowers, saline brightness, and a hint of sea-spray minerality in the finish. Where the Heintz bottling leans toward elegance, the Hirsch brings a wilder, more maritime energy. Limited production.
