Antoine Sunier is something of an anomaly: born and raised in Dijon, the beating heart of Burgundy, he didn't come from a winemaking family. He fell into wine sideways, by way of his older brother Julien (and, as the story goes, a few well-placed haircuts), and is now one of Beaujolais' most exciting young vignerons. He works naturally, vinifying in the traditional semi-carbonic fashion that gives cru Beaujolais its lift and perfume. This Villages cuvee, Poursuite, is Gamay at its most honest: bright, fresh, and built for drinking, not contemplating. Chill it down half an hour and pour with abandon.

More about Antoine Sunier

Antoine Sunier works traditional semi-carbonic maceration in Beaujolais, a middle path that preserves terroir without the risk of over-extraction. His older brother Julien set him up with choice parcels and well-maintained organic vines, and Antoine has built his own reputation through meticulous attention to fermentation and minimal intervention. He works only indigenous yeasts, no additives beyond a whisper of sulfur at bottling. These are Beaujolais wines that prove the region's traditions earn respect when they're practiced with care.

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken, charcuterie boards, grilled sausages, mushroom risotto, or a Tuesday-night burger.

Tasting Profile

Light-bodied, juicy and fresh, with sour cherry and raspberry fruit, a little spice, and bright acidity. Easygoing but not simple.
