This is a portrait of the whole village rather than one corner of it: five separate parcels across Chassagne-Montrachet, averaging twenty-five years of vine age, blended into a single wine. Chassagne is the broader, rounder half of the Montrachet hill; where Puligny's thin soils over hard limestone push toward tension and salinity, Chassagne carries more clay, and that shows up as flesh and a fuller mid-palate. Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, working out of Dezize-les-Maranges since 2005, give their village wines the same treatment as the crus: hand harvest, slow pressing, native-yeast fermentation in 350-liter barrels, twelve months in wood and six in tank, no batonnage at any point. The 2024 season was cold, wet and mildew-plagued, producing very little wine but giving the whites a high-acid, classical shape Burgundy had not seen in a decade. Drink it over the next five to seven years.

Burghound

90 points

"from several different lieux-dits but mostly from Carrières and Pot Bois. Reduction dominates the nose today. Happily the palate impression of the slightly bigger-bodied flavors is also super-fresh with fine intensity that deliver first-rate length on the balanced and complex finale that is dry but not really austere. This is an excellent Chassagne villages and worth checking out."

Antonio Galloni

93 points

"The 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is a blend of seven lieux-dits with one-third from Morgeots, all touching Grand Crus. It has a touch of oyster shell on the nose that combines deftly with the citrus fruit. Fine delineation and focus. The palate is well balanced with a killer line of acidity, impressive depth and intensity, lightly spiced with a powerful and long finish that is unequivocally Premier Cru in standard. You will find few white Village Crus better than this." —Neal Martin

Jancis Robinson

16.5 points

"From a total of 3 ha of vines across 11 parcels in Champs de Morjot, Pot Bois, La Caniere, Les Chenes, En Journoblot and Les Houilleres. Tank sample. Mid lemon. Lemon, apple, citrus. Quite mealy and broad. Attractive, incisive acidity driving to the finish. Good length and persistence."

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with tarragon, veal in cream, scallops, halibut with brown butter, or a mushroom risotto. Comte and aged Gruyere work too.

Tasting Profile

Aromas of yellow apple, white flowers, almond and a little wet chalk. Medium to full on the palate with a rounder, fleshier middle than Puligny gives, framed by fresh citrus acidity. Gentle grip on the finish, with the oak staying in the background.
