The second wine of a Second Growth, and a genuinely useful way into Margaux. Baron de Brane comes from Chateau Brane-Cantenac, run by Henri Lurton since 1992, and it's assembled from the vats chosen for suppleness rather than sheer structure, then aged about a year in barrel. The 2021 is Merlot-led, roughly half Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon close behind, from a cool and classically proportioned vintage that gave Bordeaux on the fresher, more restrained side. That's not a knock. It means this drinks well now rather than demanding ten years of patience, while still carrying the floral lift that makes Margaux worth the trouble in the first place.

It carries the estate's pedigree—a Second Growth in Margaux owned by the Lurton family since 1956—without the weight. A 65% Cabernet and 35% Merlot blend from younger parcels, it's meant for pleasure now while its big sibling needs time. Elegance without the lecture.
