Nino Barraco is one of Sicily’s most compelling natural winemakers, crafting wines that highlight the raw, untamed energy of the island’s coastal terroirs. His 2022 Terre Siciliane Bianco G is a pure Grillo, sourced from vineyards near Marsala, where limestone-rich soils and sea winds create a wine of intensity, structure, and unmistakable Sicilian character. Made with skin contact and minimal intervention, it offers a deeper, more expressive take on this often-overlooked variety.

Golden citrus, ripe pear, and apricot lead the nose, layered with wild fennel, almond, and a distinct saline edge. The palate is textured and expansive, with a subtle grip from skin maceration, yet it remains vibrant and lifted by fresh acidity. Unlike leaner, steel-fermented Grillos, Barraco’s version embraces depth and a sense of place, making it a standout for fans of skin-contact whites or complex Mediterranean wines.

Ideal alongside grilled seafood, Sicilian caponata, or hard cheeses, this 2022 Bianco G is best served just below cellar temperature to highlight its richness and minerality. A beautifully wild, thought-provoking wine that captures the essence of Sicily’s western coast.

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2022 Bianco G, a varietal Grillo, opens with a honeyed blend of green melon and tropical florals contrasted by hints of wet stone. It’s silky-smooth, nearly weighty in feel, but possesses ample stimulating acidity to balance as notes of ripe yellow apple and nectarine swirl throughout. This leaves a classically dry sensation through the close, along with a lemon-pith bitterness that keeps things fresh. The Bianco G hails from vines planted in 1975 within Contrada Rina Vecchia. It was aged in a combination of concrete and chestnut cask." -Vinous
