The only white wine Amelie Berthaut makes, from an appellation where Chardonnay accounts for barely 3% of the plantings — which tells you how rare a bottle of white Fixin actually is. Champ des Charmes sits beside the Les Crais vineyard on soil that is alluvial and notably white, lighter and more limestone-rich than the rest of the site, and that's exactly the kind of ground that keeps Chardonnay taut rather than broad. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters, fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts in steel and finishes in barrel, a gentle sequence that suits a wine this small in scale. Berthaut came home to Fixin in 2013 and brought her father's and her mother's family vineyards together under one label, farming the whole thing organically; the heart of it all is still Fixin, and this is the curiosity of the range. If you already know her reds, this is the bottle that shows the other side of the address.

Amélie Berthaut returned to her native Fixin at the top of the Côte de Nuits in 2013 and brought together her mother's and father's family vineyards under one label. The domaine now comprises 13 hectares across the top villages of the Côte de Nuits, including a first-rate premier cru in Vosne-Romanée. Amélie makes wines that are delicate and complex, farming organically and bottling with the kind of precision that speaks of genuine understanding. This is Burgundy kept in the family and made even better for it.
