Rich Madeira from the only founding family of the original wine trade still owning and managing their company. John Blandy arrived in Madeira in 1808 and founded his firm in 1811—now in its 7th generation under CEO Chris Blandy. Malmsey (Malvasia) grapes are fermented off the skins at 18-21°C, fortified with grape brandy after 48 hours to retain sweetness, then aged via the traditional Canteiro method: gradual movement of American oak casks from warm upper lodge floors to cooler ground levels over five years. This UNESCO-recognized technique transforms fresh fruit into complex dried fruit character.
