"The 2023 Blason d’Issan has a straightforward, quite high-toned/pastille-like bouquet that just needs a little more bandwidth. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins, but it feels a bit hollow on the mid-palate and a bit raw on the finish. I have had better Blason d’Issan." —Neal Martin

"Aromas of sweet berries, cherries, cardamom and shoe polish introduce the 2023 Blason d'Issan, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and fleshy palate and concluding with a somewhat metallic, drying finish. It's a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 4% Malbec." —William Kelley

"Really expressive, dried flowers, green and red fruit. Herbal notes and dark, ripe black fruit on the palate with chalky minerality. It’s a little serious, though nicely defined, with a good weight. Juicy and clean, I like the style, it’s classy with lots of minty Cabernet freshness on the finish. Lifted if still a touch austere at this point. Could be upscored in bottle. 3.50pH. Ageing 35% new oak."

More about Blason d'Issan

Blason d'Issan is Château d'Issan's second wine—approachable Margaux created in 1995 from younger parcels. A 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot blend aged 14-16 months in barrels (35% new), it's made for pleasure now while its big sibling needs time. Elegance without the lecture, designed to drink sooner than the first wine. That's second wine wisdom.
