Bruno Clavelier is a Vosne-Romanee biodynamic pioneer, farming organically since the 1990s and making wines with native yeasts, partial whole-cluster, and no fining or filtration. Les Hautes Maizieres is a village Vosne-Romanee lieu-dit, but a special one: a tiny parcel of vines over sixty-five years old (massal selection), sitting just below the famed 1er Cru Les Suchots. The 2012, a small and concentrated vintage, gives it real depth for a village wine. At this age it's drinking in a mature, complex window. Decant before serving.

"A highly perfumed nose displays notes of dried herbs, spices, lavender and dark cherry. The medium-bodied flavors possess a cool and admirably pure mouth character with a seductive mouth feel as there is plenty of structure-buffering dry extract that coats the mouth on the impressively long finish. This is an excellent villages that should drink well young but age well too."

"Bright dark red. Very spicy, slightly exotic aromas of black cherry, lavender and garrigue. A step up in fruit intensity from the foregoing samples, with solid minerality adding to the impression of structure. Has the mid-palate fruit to support its substantial dusty, ripe tannins. A distinctly virile style that Clavelier described as "the first meat wine in the series."" —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

"The 2012 Vosne-Romanee Les Hautes Maizieres has a gorgeous nose that seems to flow more than the Les Hauts de Beaux Monts or the La Combe Brulee, laden with sumptuous redcurrant, fresh strawberry and pomegranate scents. The palate is clean and fresh on the entry with generous succulent red berry fruit, fine weight in the mouth with a cohesive, confident finish that rounds everything off nicely. This is delicious. Drink 2016-2026." —Neal Martin

More about Bruno Clavelier

Bruno inherited a legendary parcel in Vosne-Romanée—some 95% planted to rare, old-clone Pinot Noir Fin—and he took it seriously. Certified biodynamic since 2005, he farms with old-school discipline and produces Pinots that speak more to terroir than trend: elegant, structured, age-worthy.
