Château d’Issan 2020 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, grown on deep gravel soils in the heart of Margaux. The estate’s style leans toward refinement over power, and in the warm but balanced 2020 vintage, this means a wine that is both aromatically expressive and structurally precise.
The nose is classic Margaux—violet, cassis, graphite, and cedar—with layers of dark cherry, tobacco, and spice emerging as it opens. On the palate, it’s silky yet firm, with fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity that give it both grace and aging potential. Aged in 50% new French oak, the wood is well-integrated, framing the wine rather than dominating it.
Drinkable with a decant in youth, but best with 10–20 years of cellaring. Pairs perfectly with roast duck, rack of lamb, or earthy mushroom dishes.
