At 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 is a Third Growth Margaux leaning hard into the gravel that defines it. The estate's vines sit in Labarde and Arsac on deep garonnais gravel that drains ruthlessly and suits Cabernet down to the ground; the grand vin draws on 95 hectares of it. The 2016 growing season gave the team a mild spring for even development and then a dry summer with moderate temperatures, letting them pick parcel by parcel from September 26th to October 20th. In the cellar it's optical and manual sorting, fermentation in concrete and stainless steel, a long 35-day maceration at 28°C, then 17 months in French oak, half of it new — classicism, not cosmetics. The Albada Jelgersma family owns it, Alexander van Beek manages it, and the property is run as a single ecosystem of forest, springs, meadow, grazing land, hedgerows and biological corridors. The house prizes two things here — aromatic brilliance and finesse of tannin — and that's exactly what they say the 2016 delivers.

Perfect Pairings

Rack of lamb with thyme, a salt-crusted rib of beef, duck breast with cherries, or venison with roasted root vegetables. Aged Comté or a mature farmhouse Cheddar handles the tannins nicely.

Tasting Profile

Deep garnet-purple in the glass. A Cabernet-led Margaux built for elegance rather than muscle: cassis with earth, tar and pepper, and a meaty nuance alongside touches of flowers, and the floral lift the wine shows.
