Antonio Galloni

94 points

"The 2014 Léoville Barton has a seductive and beautifully composed bouquet with ample brambly red fruit, sous-bois and light pencil shavings scents. This has real finesse. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, a keen line of acidity and more salinity than its peers. What feels like top-quality new oak smooths the finish but does not impose itself. This is a classy Saint-Julien from the Barton family. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

94 points

"The 2014 Leoville Barton is one of the must-buys of the vintage. Now in bottle, it has a very pure bouquet that gains intensity in the glass, laden with blackberry and raspberry coulis scents, cold wet stone, a wonderful mineralité that becomes more conspicuous with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannin, a fine line of acidity that lends this precision and nervosité. There is class and sophistication in situ, not a powerful Léoville Barton, but beautifully poised. This is just a brilliant forerunner to the 2015 and it should represent great value." —Neal Martin

Decanter

95 points

"83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. Proving the quality of the 2014s, this has an extremely juicy, controlled finish. New oak was about 60%; typical for Barton. There's a smoky, caramelised edge that adds a touch of sweetness to the classic pencil shavings, cedar and cassis notes. This has a great future ahead of it."

Wine Spectator

94 points

"This has a solid core of cassis, blueberry confiture and plum sauce flavors, wrapped with warm ganache and licorice snap notes, kept honest by graphite rivets along the finish. This has lots of muscle, but stays lean and long."

Wine Enthusiast

95 points

"This wine, with its massive tannins and rich fruit, is obviously set for a long life. It does have the contrast of fresh black-currant acidity to give it a lift. But with the power behind it, the wine will develop slowly. Drink from 2025." —Roger Voss
